Parking Lot Black Ice Accident Settles for $450,000

Newman Injury Law handled a slip and call case to a young nursing student who fell while in the parking lot of her apartment complex early one morning while walking to her car to commute to school. There had not been any recent precipitation, but we were able to prove that prior snow was negligently plowed into piles by the apartment maintenance team, and thereafter they failed to properly salt the roadway. The temperature rose and fell, causing the piles of snow to melt and  coupled with the concave nature of the parking lot, caused an isolated patch of black ice, which caused the injury. The student suffered a complex fracture of her tibia and fibula and required multiple surgeries. After filing suit, the matter was successfully mediated and settled for $450,000.00.
